An Owensboro man faces multiple felony charges after authorities say a three-year-old child was hospitalized in critical condition from exposure to methamphetamine.
Kentucky State Police say the investigation began Saturday evening when Owensboro Regional Health Hospital reported the child tested positive for the drug. Police say the victim was later flown to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville for specialized care.
Troopers arrested the child’s father, 43-year-old Gary D. Walker, after he was reportedly discovered with synthetic urine concealed in his clothing in an attempt to cheat a drug test. Police say a search of his Danberry Street residence uncovered 5 grams of meth along with marijuana.
Walker was charged with second-degree criminal simulation, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – meth, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Daviess County jail.
According to State Police, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s exposure to methamphetamine is ongoing.
