Lewis, Riggs, Noel and Jones Win in Hopkins County Primary, White Plains Votes ‘Wet’ on Alcohol Sales

Almost 18 percent of Hopkins County voters headed to the polls for the primary election, deciding several key leadership seats across the county.

Unofficial results from the Secretary of State show that 5,844 out of 32,735 registered voters in Caldwell County cast ballots in the primary election, making for a 17.85 percent turnout.

In the unofficial results for the Republican primary for jailer, incumbent Mike Lewis received 57 percent (1,742) of the votes, while LyDon Logan garnered 43 percent (1,295).

Tim Riggs won the 3rd Magisterial District Republican primary race with 74 percent (451) of the votes, defeating David R. Wiley, who received 26 percent (161).

Riggs will go up against District 3 Democratic incumbent Vickie Dickerson Thomison in the general election this fall.

In the 4th Magisterial District, incumbent Ronnie Noel garnered 59 percent (346) of the votes, while Joseph Hemmerle got 41 percent (240).

Noel will face Democrat Charles Donald Yarbrough in November.

In the non-partisan race for Madisonville City Council Ward 6, Kim McMurtrie Jones garnered 49 percent (238) of the votes, Ricky R. “Rik” Woosley got 29 percent (140), and Devi Thorpe received 22 percent (106).

In White Plains, voters considered a local option on allowing alcohol sales, with 63 percent voting yes and 37 percent voting no.

In the primary race for U.S. Senator, Republican Andy Barr won Hopkins County with 65 percent (80) of the votes, while Democrat Amy McGrath received 42 percent (47).

In the Republican primary for U.S. Representative in the 1st Congressional District, James Comer won in Hopkins County with 87 percent of the votes.
