The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is a place for legends, and recently, the Hopkins County Central High School choir traveled to Music City for a 30-minute performance that mixed classic country and bluegrass.
According to school leaders, senior Chance Littlepage said their outdoor performance attracted a steady audience, with many people stopping to listen. Choral director Kelly Oliver said she believes this was the first time a local school group has performed at the museum, and she was excited to accept the invitation.
The students reportedly spent weeks rehearsing a setlist that paid tribute to their Western Kentucky roots, including songs by Bill Monroe, “My Old Kentucky Home,” and a special jazz version of “16 Tons.” Of course, since they were in Nashville, they wrapped up with “Rocky Top.”
For the choir members, school officials noted the trip was also about building memories together. Senior Savannah Williams shared that the best part was spending time as a team.
District officials said that although visiting the Ryman Auditorium was not possible this year due to budget constraints, the group is already looking at future trips to Nashville or even Branson, Missouri.
The choir’s final performance of the year will be at the high school’s Baccalaureate ceremony.
