A Madisonville man is facing a drug trafficking charge following a K-9 alert during a traffic stop Monday evening.
Madisonville Police say 55-year-old Joey Sherman was arrested just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of South Main Street and Westview Drive.
Police say officers stopped Sherman’s vehicle after spotting several objects blocking his windshield. While officers wrote him a warning, Sherman reportedly refused their request to search his vehicle.
After a K-9 unit was brought to the scene and alerted on the vehicle, police say they found a significant amount of suspected meth, a digital scale, several clear plastic baggies, and cash.
Sherman was taken into custody and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second or greater offense, involving more than two grams of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police say records indicate Sherman has a previous conviction for meth trafficking.
He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
