Electric vehicle drivers in western Kentucky have a new place to plug in. Governor Andy Beshear announced Friday the opening of a fast-charging EV station in Central City.

A second station also opened Friday in the eastern Kentucky town of Salyersville as part of the “Team Kentucky” EV Charging Program.

The Central City site is located at Casey’s on South Second Street, just off the Western Kentucky Parkway at Exit 58. It features four ports capable of charging vehicles at up to 400 kilowatts each.

The project was funded in part by an $830,000 award from the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

Francis Energy built, maintains, and operates the two new EV charging stations as part of the federally funded National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

State transportation officials say dozens of similar sites are open or under construction statewide to help eliminate driver range anxiety.
