Hopkins Fiscal Court Approves Fire Dues Increase for Hanson Fire Department

The Hopkins County Fiscal Court at Tuesday’s meeting approved surplus equipment, authorized the purchase of a new truck, and increased fire dues for the Hanson Volunteer Fire Department.

Emergency Management Deputy Director Jesse Breedlove asked magistrates to approve raising fire dues to $60 for regular structures and $125 for businesses.

click to download audioHe said the increase is expected to generate approximately $15,000 in additional annual revenue for the fire department.

click to download audioIn other business, magistrates approved Road Foreman Tim Gordan’s request to designate three trucks and three dump trucks as surplus equipment for auction.

click to download audioMagistrates also approved Gordan’s request to purchase a new 2026 Chevy one-ton truck for $55,689, selecting the lowest of three bids to replace one of the surplus trucks.

Gordan also shared the County Road Department’s year-end report for 2025, noting that over 40 new culverts were installed and more than 18 miles of road were paved.
