Hopkins County Magistrates Approve Funding for Soccer Club, Humane Society Rebuild

The Hopkins County Fiscal Court approved funding for the Madisonville Soccer Club and the Humane Society’s construction project during Tuesday morning’s meeting.

Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield said the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant, up to $26,000, will support the Madisonville Soccer Club.

Magistrates also unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to use $1 million in Coal Severance funds to help rebuild the Hopkins County Humane Society building that was damaged in a tornado earlier this year. The county is obligated for up to $1 million of the $2.5 million project estimate.

In other new business, magistrates approved an amended personnel policy regarding CDL licenses, as presented by Executive Assistant Laura Harvey.

click to download audioIn other action, magistrates accepted the lone bid of $194,995 from Wright Implement of Owensboro to purchase a new 6110M Cab John Deere Tractor for Public Works, replacing a New Holland tractor that is no longer serviceable.

Magistrates also accepted the sole bid to purchase a used John Deere tractor from Wright Implement for the Sanitation Department in the amount of $76,000.

Judge Whitfield also proclaimed the month of September as Pain Management Awareness Month in Hopkins County and encourages all citizens to join in recognizing the importance of education, awareness, and support for individuals and families affected by pain.
