An Owensboro man is heading to federal prison for nearly a quarter of a century after a three-day armed robbery and carjacking spree.
According to the U.S.Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky, 47-year-old Daniel York was sentenced last week to 24 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors say York terrorized local employees across Jefferson and Bullitt counties in November 2024. According to court documents, York held workers at gunpoint at a Louisville vape shop, a Marathon gas station, and a Hillview auto parts store on three consecutive days. He stole cash, phones, and two vehicles from the scenes.
Police arrested York following a high-speed chase that stretched through Kentucky and Indiana.
U-S Attorney Kyle Bumgarner called York’s conduct heinous, noting that the innocent employees will live with the trauma for the rest of their lives. Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey praised the relentless work of the officers who stopped York before anyone else was hurt.
There is no parole in the federal prison system, meaning York will serve the full 24-year term.
