A Madisonville man is facing several charges after police responded to a disturbance at Madisonville City Park on Saturday.

Madisonville Police say officers were sent to the park around 3:15 p.m. after an attendant reported that 25-year-old Dustin Berry appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Police say Berry then entered a backyard on Park Avenue, picked up a homeowner’s sledgehammer, and allegedly threatened the resident with it.

Officers tracked Berry into a wooded area, where he reportedly ran through thick brush and vines. After a brief foot chase, police say Berry resisted arrest, refused to leave the woods, and began spitting at officers.

Berry faces nine total charges, including alcohol intoxication in a public place, third-degree terroristic threatening, menacing, resisting arrest, second-degree fleeing or evading police, third-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, and third-degree assault of a police officer.
