First United Bank Issues Warning Over Spike in Scam Texts and Calls

First United Bank is alerting customers to a recent increase in fraudulent text messages targeting business accounts.

Keri Hinton, Assistant Vice President and Deposit Strategy Officer, says scammers are sending fraudulent text messages that appear to be from the bank. In many cases, she says these messages are followed by a phone call that mimics the bank’s official phone number.

According to Hinton, fraudsters posing as bank employees often pressure victims to click links or log into fake websites to steal account information.

The bank reminds customers it will never ask for online credentials, one-time passcodes, or send text messages requiring a link to be clicked.

If you receive a suspicious message or call, do not click any links or provide information. Instead, hang up and contact your local banking center or call customer support at 270-821-5555.

Hinton says that security is very important to the bank. She encourages all customers—especially business customers—to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately so the bank can assist you and take appropriate protective action.
