The Madisonville Electric Department is being recognized at the national level for its commitment to safe operations. The utility was one of 240 public power organizations across the country to receive the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for 2025.

Madisonville Electric earned the Diamond-level award, which honors organizations with between 30,000 and nearly 60,000 worker-hours of exposure. City officials say this achievement highlights the utility’s dedication to safety, teamwork, and making sure every employee returns home safely at the end of each day. City leaders also expressed gratitude to the electric crew for setting a high standard and providing outstanding service to the community.

More than 200 utilities nationwide entered the 2025 Safety Awards. Participants were grouped by worker-hours and ranked on incident-free records and overall safety culture, following Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines. Association officials say these awards showcase outstanding workplace safety and a strong commitment to employee well-being across the public power sector.

The American Public Power Association has conducted the Safety Awards every year for more than 65 years. The organization represents not-for-profit, community-owned utilities serving 2,000 towns and cities across the nation.
