A Warren County man was arrested Sunday morning after police say he stole a vehicle and crashed it on North Main Street.
According to Madisonville Police, officers responded to a crash on North Main Street near Arby’s Sunday morning, where a vehicle struck a curb, causing the front passenger tire to separate and the rear tire to blow out. The driver then reportedly fled the scene on foot.
Police said their investigation identified 19-year-old Daelyn Howell of Alvaton as the driver, who had stolen the vehicle earlier that morning from a residence where he was staying with the owners. Officers said they later found Howell at his mother’s residence and determined he was under the influence when the crash occurred.
Police also noted that Howell admitted to both stealing the vehicle and causing the damage.
Howell was charged with theft by unlawful taking of an automobile valued between $1,000 and $10,000, driving under the influence under the age of 21, leaving the scene of an accident, first-degree criminal mischief, and failing to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
