Students at Hanson Elementary are getting a real taste of farm life, thanks to a special hands-on project that recently caught the attention of Kentucky’s agriculture leaders.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Ag Education and Outreach recently recognized Ember Patterson, a 4th-grade teacher at Hanson Elementary School, for her dedication to hands-on learning. Patterson was featured in a Farm Fresh Feature post during Ag Education Week.

State agriculture officials gave Patterson a shoutout on social media, highlighting her efforts to connect students with agriculture in a meaningful way. They say Patterson partnered with Madisonville North Hopkins FFA to incubate four different breeds of chicken eggs. They said students wrapped up the experience with a fun grocery store egg dissection, helping students explore how chicks develop inside the egg. Officials described the project as meaningful and an exciting way to connect kids with agriculture.

Patterson was one of several teachers from across the state featured by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Ag Education, and Outreach during Ag Education Week.
