An investigation into a weekend burglary at a local restaurant led to the arrest of a Madisonsville man on Monday.
Madisonville Police responded to Swaggy P’s Kitchen and Coffee on South Main Street around 5:45 p.m. Sunday after reports of a break-in. Police said employees told officers that someone broke into the manager’s office after hours and took a money bag containing weekend earnings.
After reviewing security footage, investigators reported seeing a person, later identified as 50-year-old Brian Kingery, using a hammer to break the office door handle. They said he also tried to pry open the cash register, damaging it in the process.
Police tracked Kingery to a home on West Lake Street, where he was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Monday. According to investigators, Kingery admitted to stealing a key, breaking in, and taking the money bag.
Kingery was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
