Henderson residents may hear sounds similar to gunshots on Wednesday evening, as the Henderson Police Department’s Emergency Response Team conducts low-light firearms training.

Officials with the Henderson Police Department say they are taking steps to prepare officers for incidents that happen in low-light conditions. Recognizing that many police actions, including armed encounters, often occur at night or in dimly lit areas, they say officers are now participating in specialized training designed to improve their response when visibility is limited.

Authorities say officers are training to adapt to rapidly changing environments, such as the dimming twilight to the flash of a streetlamp—not just improving their shooting skills. The goal, they add, is to equip officers to make quick, life-saving decisions as visibility decreases.

Police note that the better prepared their Emergency Response Team officers are for these conditions, the more effectively they can protect both the community and themselves.

Police say Henderson residents may hear sounds resembling gunshots until 10:00 Wednesday evening. If anything seems unusual or out of the ordinary, police advise residents to report it.
