Madisonville Man Charged with Arson at Personal Care Home

A Madisonville man was arrested Monday night in connection with a fire at a personal care home with residents inside.

Madisonville Police say officers were dispatched to 140 Givens Street around 6:00 p.m. on Monday, where the manager said three individuals witnessed 34-year-old Billy Carter setting fire to cardboard boxes next to a large propane tank located beside the building.

According to officers, witnesses stated Carter then dragged the burning cardboard boxes from the propane tank and placed them beside an air conditioning unit next to the building.

Police say the Madisonville Fire Department extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Carter was taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
