The Hopkins County Humane Society is preparing to move into its temporary shelter this month and is reaching out to the community for vital supplies to help care for local animals in need.
Executive Director Dustin Potenza shared in a social media post that while the shelter has recently received much-appreciated donations of towels and blankets, their most urgent needs now include wet and dry food for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, as well as pill pockets and daily care supplies. He says all needed items are listed on the Hopkins County Humane Society’s Chewy Wish List.
According to Potenza, the United States Postal Service and UPS are having difficulty locating them, but Chewy’s shipments through FedEx have been arriving without any issues.
He says the Hopkins County Humane Society anticipates moving into its temporary shelter on Dulin Street later this month, once the final building modifications are finished.
In a January update to the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, Potenza explained that the temporary shelter on Dulin Street will remain in use even after construction of the new Humane Society facility on Laffoon Trail is completed. The new building will be built on the site of the original facility that suffered significant tornado damage on April 2nd, forcing it to close.
