Local officials have announced new resources to help those affected by the December 2021 tornadoes, as free legal assistance is now available for survivors still facing ongoing challenges.

According to officials, many residents continue to face lasting effects from the December 2021 tornadoes, including financial hardship, credit and debt problems, housing instability, and disaster-related fraud—even years after the storms.

To support ongoing recovery, Kentucky Legal Aid is offering free legal clinics in tornado-impacted counties, including Hopkins County. These clinics offer guidance on issues such as credit and debt issues, predatory lending, bankruptcy, identity theft, and other legal matters. Assistance may also be available for important legal documents such as Living Wills, Powers of Attorney, Last Will and Testaments, and replacing court orders.

There will be a Hopkins County Legal Clinic on Tuesday, February 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Hopkins County Library.

Eligibility for participation is determined by Kentucky Legal Aid’s guidelines, and services are open to anyone who lived in a tornado-impacted county in December 2021.

To preregister for the Hopkins County Legal Clinic, call 877-782-9214.
