Christine Williams/Hopkins County Jail mugshot
A Madisonville woman was arrested over the weekend after police investigated the theft of a cell phone from outside a business.
Madisonville Police say officers were called just before 5:45 p.m. Sunday about a theft that occurred outside Gather at the Mark at 35 North Main Street.
Officers said the victim reported that her Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra had been taken from her belongings that were sitting beside her on the sidewalk. Police said the victim used a live tracking feature, allowing officers to find the phone on Hanson Street near Nisbet Street, in the possession of 39-year-old Christine Williams. Police said Williams claimed she found the phone on the sidewalk and decided to pick it up and take it.
Williams was taken into custody and charged with theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 but less than $10,000. She was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
