Madisonville Police are warning the public about a scam currently circulating in our area.
According to police, the scammers are calling and telling people they missed a federal grand jury summons and must pay money immediately to avoid a warrant. They said the caller then demands payment through Bitcoin or other electronic methods. Police emphasize that this is a scam.
If you receive a call like this, police said do not send money, hang up immediately, and report the call to police and help spread the word to prevent others from becoming victims.
Authorities reiterate that the Madisonville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will never contact you to request money for any reason.
