A new chapter began for Hopkins County law enforcement on Tuesday as local leaders, representatives from the Kentucky Association of Counties, and the community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the county’s new Sheriff’s Office facility.
Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield welcomed everyone to the nearly $8 million facility, calling it a long-awaited achievement for the community.

During an interview with WFMW’s News Edge, Sheriff Matt Sanderson said the new building marks a monumental moment for both the Sheriff’s Office and Hopkins County residents. He added that it’s a long-awaited upgrade from years spent in the basement of the old Government Center, which he described as ineffective for law enforcement, with no space for training.
He also noted the new Sheriff’s Office was built without taking on any debt.

click to download audioAs previously reported by WFMW’s News Edge, Sanderson is not seeking another term as sheriff. In addition to the new building, he’s proud of their accomplishments, such as establishing clear goals with his team and developing important policies and procedures to become an accredited agency.
