A Madisonville man is facing his second DUI after police reportedly found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in the road.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, Madsionville Police said an officer discovered 39-year-old Matthew Dukes unconscious in a running vehicle stopped in the right lane of South Main Street, near the entrance of Rural King, that was impeding traffic.

Officers reported he showed signs of heavy intoxication, including slurred speech and an open alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. After failing to perform sobriety tests and refusing a breath test, police said Dukes—who had a prior DUI—was taken into custody.

Dukes was charged with his second offense of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
