A Madisonville man is facing drug and firearm charges after police were sent to a call about a suspicious vehicle over the weekend.
Madisonville Police report officers responded to the call of a suspicious vehicle that drove around a road barrier on Woodward Street shortly before 1:00 p.m. Friday and made contact with two individuals inside the vehicle. Officers also noted they detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, officers said they found a partially smoked marijuana blunt, an empty bag of marijuana residue, and a loaded firearm in the glove box, which Joseph Lyle Smith admitted belonged to him.
Police said an investigation revealed that Smith had a prior charge for possession of marijuana with a firearm enhancement in February 2025.
Smith was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana with a firearm enhancement, possession of drug paraphernalia, and using restricted ammo during a felony with no shots fired.
He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
