A Madisonville resident was evacuated from a home last week after a carbon monoxide incident triggered an emergency response.

The Madisonville Fire Department reports that crews responded to a home in the 700 block of University Circle just after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, following a report of a carbon monoxide detector going off near the stove. The homeowner noted that three other detectors in the house did not activate.

After an investigation, rescue crews stated that the husband had started his hot rod in the garage, which triggered the detector activation. Authorities reported that dangerous levels of carbon monoxide were detected in the garage, which had seeped into the living space above, including a bedroom. They noted the resident was evacuated as a precaution, and crews opened windows and doors, using multiple box fans to ventilate the home.

After the scene was deemed safe, crews returned to the station.
