A man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly strangling his roommate.

Madisonville Police say officers responded to a call shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday, where a woman reported being assaulted by her roommate, Joshua Williams, at a residence on Springlake Street.

Officers said the woman reported that when she asked Williams to pay her about $500 he owed before leaving, he reportedly grabbed her by the throat, pushed her into a wall, and restricted her breathing. Officers said they noticed redness around her neck and a cut on her wrist.

Police said Williams was later located at a South Main Street gas station, where he denied strangling the woman but admitted to shoving her.

Williams was taken into custody and charged with first-degree strangulation. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
