The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Western Kentucky early Tuesday morning.
The advisory includes Caldwell, Hopkins, Muhlenburg, Lyon, Calloway, and other counties in the western Kentucky area. Christian, Trigg, and Todd Counties are not included in the advisory at this time. The advisory takes effect at midnight Monday night and continues until 9:00 Tuesday morning.
National Weather Service forecasters from Paducah say the advisory area could receive up to one inch of snow and sleet accumulation and a light glaze of icing. The winter weather is expected to leave slippery roads, bridges, and sidewalks, along with other untreated surfaces. The winter precipitation could occur during the Tuesday morning commute which could impact travel.
The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected to remain above freezing in Trigg, Christian, and Todd Counties, which means most of the precipitation will fall as rain. As the storm system get closer forecasters say additional counties may need to be included in the Winter Weather Advisory.
The temperatures this week are not expected to warm up over the next seven days. Lows each night will be below freezing and well below freezing in the next work week.
