A Bowling Green man was arrested Sunday afternoon in Madisonville after authorities say he crashed his vehicle with a toddler inside.

At around 2 p.m., Madisonville Police responded to Pepper Drive, where witnesses reported they heard a loud crash and then saw a car with front-end damage. They said the driver, later identified by police as 27-year-old Christian Cleveland, then parked the vehicle at a vacant house before walking away with a child.

Police said when they made contact with Cleveland, he appeared nervous and unsteady and failed field sobriety tests. Investigators also said they discovered that Cleveland’s insurance had lapsed.

Cleveland was taken into custody and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of substances under aggravating circumstances, failure of the owner to maintain required insurance, 2nd offense, and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
