Governor Andy Beshear is inviting Kentuckians to pay their respects to former Governor Martha Layne Collins, who will lie in state at the Old State Capitol in Frankfort on Sunday, November 9, beginning at noon Eastern.
Collins’ family will host a public visitation from noon until 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. The service will be broadcast live on Kentucky Educational Television and online at ket.org/live.
Collins, who passed away Saturday at the age of 88, was Kentucky’s 56th governor and remains the only woman to have held the office. She served from 1983 to 1987, after previously serving as lieutenant governor from 1979 to 1983.
Governor Beshear said the late Collins led a groundbreaking life and career dedicated to building a better Kentucky for all people.
A private burial service will take place Monday, November 10. Flags at all state office buildings will remain at half-staff in her honor until sunset on the day of her interment.
