
The Madisonville City Council approved funding for a community event, accepted a bid for utility improvements, and confirmed the reappointment of a member to a local board.
During council and committee reports, Ward 3 Councilman Adam Townsend introduced a $25,000 funding request from the Tourism Advisory Board for the 2026 Beach Bash event, which passed with a 5 to 1 vote by the council.
Ward 5 Councilman Frank Stevenson requested that the Council consider an ordinance proposed by the Joint Committee on Utilities, Transportation, Engineering, and Budget and Finance to authorize repairs for the stormwater drainage system impacting both upstream and downstream areas of Lunsford Street. No action was taken on the ordinance during the meeting.
In new business, the Council gave unanimous approval on the second reading to establish an Energy Project Assessment District Program, a measure presented by City Clerk Kim Blue.

click to download audioIn other business, the Council approved a bid for water system improvements tied to the Bean Cemetery Water Line Extension project. Blue said that three bids were received, with Bobby Luttrell & Sons offering the lowest bid—over $1.2 million—which met all city requirements. Mayor Kevin Cotton explained that the project will be funded through a grant.
click to download audioThe Council also passed a resolution declaring two unused clean burn heaters from the Madisonville Regional Airport as surplus property, and approved the reappointment of Tara Edwards to the Madisonville-Hopkins County Public Library Board for a four-year term ending November 15, 2029.
