The manslaughter charges against an Earlington couple previously accused in the death of an infant have been dismissed.
State police arrested 27-year-old Samantha Stagner and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Dayton Mason, in August following an investigation into the death of a 10-month-old infant, who was found deceased inside their home and pronounced dead by the Hopkins County coroner. Authorities said a thorough investigation and autopsy concluded the infant’s death was the result of foul play, leading to the couple being charged with first-degree manslaughter.
The charges were dismissed on October 7 after a Hopkins County grand jury issued separate “no true bills” on both Stagner and Mason, finding that there was not enough evidence to proceed with the case.
