Hear the world-famous Wiener Sängerknaben / The Vienna Boys Choir in concert in Madisonville, KY on Saturday, October 18!
The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated ensembles. Boys have sung at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since at least 1296, and in 1498 Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I formally founded the choir by requiring boys to be part of his court chapel.
Today, the Vienna Boys Choir is a private, non-profit organization with schools for 330 students ages six to nineteen. Its education program, recognized by UNESCO as cultural heritage, is open to all. Ninety active choristers are divided into four touring choirs that perform nearly 300 concerts each year before half a million listeners worldwide. Since 1924, the Choir has toured more than 100 countries and given some 29,000 concerts.
The Choir sings regularly at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel and appears at major events such as the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. 2023 marked the Choir’s 525th anniversary. Erasmus Baumgartner has served as Artistic Director since 2023.
Tickets start at $20 for adults and $10 for youth and are available now at https://bit.ly/4kEkAlM . Contact the Glema Center office for group rates.
