Hopkins County Grand Jury Issues Drug Trafficking Indictments

indictment-15

Several people are facing drug trafficking charges after the Hopkins County Grand Jury issued multiple indictments during its September session.

Jacob Lear of Eddyville was indicted on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree persistent felony offender, and first-degree trafficking of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

The charges stem from a June traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Madisonville, where police reported Lear changed lanes without signaling and was following another vehicle too closely.

Police stated they were familiar with Lear from prior encounters and knew he was a convicted felon. During the stop, officers noticed a handgun magazine on the passenger-side floorboard and were given consent to search the vehicle, where they found a diaper bag on the passenger seat with a black zippered pouch inside containing suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a small container with apparent meth residue.

Police also noted that Lear was carrying mostly $20 bills and said the meth weighed about 20 grams.

Lear was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.

In a second indictment, Lear is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) from an incident in August that was investigated by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.

A true bill was returned on Howard McKinney of Madisonville on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and first-degree persistent felony offender.

The charges are from an incident in May investigated by the Kentucky State Police.

Jordan Bivins of Elizabethtown was indicted on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

The charges are from an incident in August investigated by the Kentucky State Police.

Linda Forbes of Madisonville was indicted on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) from an incident in March investigated by the Kentucky State Police.
