The Hopkins County Board of Education last week recognized the outstanding achievements of three elementary students in writing and art competitions.
School officials shared that June Johnson was recognized for winning the AARP Grandparent Essay Contest at both the county and district levels. They said Johnson, who wrote the essay as a fifth grader at Jesse Stuart Elementary School, read her moving essay to those in attendance at the board meeting. The contest is administered by the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and the award presentation was led by Susan Weatherford and Ann Hale of the Hopkins County Retired Teachers Association.
The Board also recognized Jesse Stuart Elementary students Jaidin Adkins, a fifth grader, and Rylan Bowman, a fourth grader, whose artworks were among the top nine finalists statewide in the “I Voted” Sticker Contest. The contest was sponsored through the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office and voting took place at the Kentucky State Fair.
