Aaron Cates/Hopkins County Jail mugshot
A Madisonville man was indicted on charges after allegedly firing a rifle at another person during an incident on North Russell Drive in July.
A true bill was returned on Aaron Cates on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Madisonville Police, officers answered a shots-fired call and learned from the victim that Cates had fired three rounds at him with a rifle. Police say they found .22 caliber shell casings outside Cates’ front door, and during their investigation, Cates admitted to shooting at the victim. Officers reportedly recovered the rifle from his bedroom.
Police noted that the home is located about 100 feet from the intersection of North Main Street and U.S. Highway 41, putting nearby drivers and residents at serious risk of death or severe injury.
He was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
