Two Madisonville North Hopkins High School FFA teams were honored by the Board of Education last week for winning state championships.

According to school officials, the Small Power Team, created through the Small Power Equipment class, qualified for the state by winning the regional in April. Students applied skills related to single-cylinder engine repair and showcased related content knowledge. Team members are Westyn Miles, Will Blake, Andree Boggess, and Ari Fisk.

The Madisonville North Hopkins High School FFA also claimed first place in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture School Garden Salsa Contest. Officials explained that the winning recipe featured ingredients grown at the school, with sweet corn from their test plot and honey from their own hives as standout elements. The team—Lilli Norman, Riley Peyton, Alex Garrott, Keeley Peyton, Kelcie Greer, and Hadley Webb—prepared their dish on the big stage at the Kentucky State Fair, where culinary experts evaluated their techniques and food safety. Their salsa was then taste-tested by Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell, Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher, and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, all of whom will visit the high school on Tuesday for Kentucky’s Ag Education Week.
