After a short period of heavy rain on Thursday, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers have closed the right lane of Interstate 69 at mile marker 111 due to possible ground settlement that has damaged the road.
This section is located between the Mortons Gap and Earlington exits along Interstate 69.
According to state transportation officials, this is the same stretch that was briefly closed last week as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews repaired a crack in the road. However, they said the heavy rainfall on Thursday caused the condition to worsen quickly, resulting in the current lane closure.
Currently, officials said there is no timeline for when the lane will reopen. Engineers are evaluating the area to decide on the most effective approach for permanent repairs.
