Hopkins County Grand Jury Issues Multiple Indictments, Including Assault Cases

The Hopkins County Grand Jury has handed down several indictments from its July session, including cases involving assault and other charges.

A true bill was returned on John Oakley, of Mortons Gap, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with aggravators, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container, volatile substance abuse, first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree assault, and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

The charges stem from a May incident in which Madisonville Police reported that Oakley struck multiple vehicles, including a police cruiser, on North Main Street before crashing into two utility poles. Police said two people injured in the crash were taken to Baptist Health Deaconess, while another was airlifted for further treatment.

Lukas Miller, of Madisonville, was indicted on charges of public intoxication, second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, third-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree assault, and two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer.

The charges in connection with a June stabbing on Pride Avenue. Madisonville Police reported that Miller stabbed his brother in the shoulder during a fight, then spat in the face of one officer and spit on another officer while being taken to the police cruiser. Officers also stated that Miller threatened to kill them.

Paul Lee, of Russellville, was indicted on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, third offense, third-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, and two misdemeanors.

The charges are in connection with a May incident that was investigated by the Madisonville Police Department.
