A former fire chief in Union County has been indicted for misappropriation of funds.
Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Thursday that 41-year-old Chad Cullen, of Sturgis, was indicted by a Union County Grand Jury on a single charge of abuse of public trust, a Class C felony.
The indictment states that from January 2022 to December 2024, Cullen, who was chief at the time, allegedly stole over $50,000 from the Sturgis Fire Department. According to court documents, Cullen allegedly failed to deposit the money, instead using department funds for personal expenses and unauthorized spending.
Detectives from the Attorney General’s Department of Criminal Investigations conducted the investigation. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Wes Hunt, representing Crittenden, Union, and Webster Counties, presented the case to the grand jury on behalf of the Commonwealth.
According to the Webster County Detention Center’s website, Cullen was booked into the jail following his arrest by the Union County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
