Republicans and Democrats can agree on one thing.

Kentucky is now a baseball state.

Wednesday afternoon on the federal floor in Washington, D.C., Rep. James Comer lauded the Murray State Racers — darlings of the Commonwealth and the country after stunning Duke in the Durham NCAA Super Regional.

Then, during Wednesday’s major tourism announcement at the Slugger Museum & Factory in Louisville, Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged both the Racers and the Louisville Cardinals — themselves headed to Omaha for this weekend’s College World Series.

He also paid a nod to last year’s Major League Baseball World Series, which also had a tie to the Bluegrass.

Aside from the proclivity for power hitting and timely pitching, the Racers specifically boast several local hands on deck — including former Madisonville-North Hopkins star Jonathan Hogart, former Lyon County star Gunnar Bingham, former Hopkinsville High School star Preston Chaudoin and former Marshall County star Reese Oakley.

The Racers left for Omaha, Nebraska, Wednesday afternoon, and open the College World Series Saturday afternoon with a matchup against UCLA.
