Mayor Kevin Cotton unveiled the 2025-2026 budget at Monday night’s Madisonville City Council meeting, emphasizing a year of significant investments and plans for future investments in infrastructure and community projects.
Mayor Cotton announced that the General Fund budget is about $34 million, including investments in streets, sidewalks, and stormwater utilities.
click to download audioThe budget also allocates funds for ongoing investments in Fire Station 2 on South Main Street, currently in the design phase, as well as continued support for law enforcement training and park improvements.
click to download audioMayor Cotton stated that the budget includes funds for upgrades and investments in Mahr Park and enhancing the current facilites at the Madisonville Regional Airport.
click to download audioHe noted that the budget provides for significant equipment upgrades across city departments and maintains a focus on economic development, including industry, retail, and other enhancements to foster growth.
click to download audioThe mayor also mentioned that the budget will continue to support the community’s youth, highlighted by the Kentucky Sports Factory indoor facility, as well as the addition of the outdoor fields.
Mayor Cotton stated that the overall Capital and Utility Funds total around $23 million for infrastructure projects. He added that they achieved last year’s goal of maintaining a three-month reserve for the city, a target that remains in this budget.
Mayor Cotton expressed his gratitude to all the departments and staff who contributed to the budget process.
