Governor Andy Beshear has announced Thursday nearly $1.5 million for a third round of funding to be spread across six projects at five of Kentucky’s riverports, including in Henderson and Owensboro.
According to the Governor, the funds are intended to improve the state’s riverports and boost economic opportunities.
click to download audioIn addition to the Henderson County Riverport Authority receiving $208,890 to replace a material handler for more efficient offloading and movement of goods, the Owensboro Riverport Authority was awarded $381,743 to repave and widen the access road used by all trucks entering and exiting the warehouses on the complex.
The Eddyville Riverport and Industrial Development Authority was awarded over $515,000 this round to increase its barge storage capacity from 12 to 18.
Two other riverports, the Hickman-Fulton County Riverport Authority and the Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority, received funds exceeding $300,000 for material loading upgrades.
Alongside this third round of funding, the Governor announced in August that over $5 million was invested in eight riverport projects, while the second round in January allocated $1 million to two riverports.
