A man and a woman were arrested on drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Madisonville.

Madisonville Police reported that a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Joshua Beals of Henderson was stopped near Loves on Veterans Drive for a seat belt violation and expired vehicle registration on Tuesday evening. As the officer approached the vehicle, police said a passenger 39-year-old Jeanette Davis of Marion allegedly attempted to exit the vehicle, and the officer noted a “heavy smell” of marijuana coming from the pickup truck.

During the stop, police reported discovering a baggie of suspected meth and cash in Beals’ pocket, another baggie of suspected meth on the passenger floorboard, and a glass smoking pipe with suspected meth residue between the passenger and middle seats. Additionally, police said they found a burnt marijuana roach on the middle floorboard, a backpack containing multiple baggies, a digital scale with meth residue, and a grinder with suspected marijuana. Another backpack in the rear seat contained a meth pipe, according to police.

Beals and Davis were both taken into custody and booked into the Hopkins County Jail on charges of trafficking meth, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
