Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have unveiled plans for a major $10 million roadway rehabilitation project set to commence this Wednesday, targeting a 4.34-mile stretch of Interstate 69 in Madisonville.
According to state transportation officials, the first phase will start Wednesday, with the fast lane closed in both directions from KY 281/Island Ford Road to just south of the KY 2657/Fowler Road overpass. This closure will allow a subcontractor to pour new crash safety walls around bridge piers at the US 41 and KY 281 overpasses and replace damaged guardrails along the two-mile stretch.
The first phase of the project is expected to last about two weeks, weather permitting, with lane restrictions continuing as the project advances.
Officials indicate the project will address pavement, guardrail, and other concerns along I-69 from KY 70 to the KY 2657 Fowler Road overpass. It will also include repairs to the northbound ramp at Exit 114, near James Madison Middle School.
State transportation officials stated they will provide updates on the project’s progress and its potential impact on traffic flow as the work moves forward.
The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-November 2025.
