Hopkins County Fiscal Court Approves Key Emergency Management Requests

During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Hopkins County Fiscal Court approved several key requests from emergency management, including a bid for a backup generator and authorization for a grant contract.

During department reports, Emergency Management Director Nick Bailey said they received three bids for a backup generator at the Charleston radio tower site, with him recommending the court to accept the lowest bid from Aladdin Electric of approximately $21,756 and emphasized the importance.

Bailey also asked for magistrates to authorize Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield, Jr. to sign the Emergency Management Performance Grant contract with Kentucky Emergency Management to secure approximately $20,000 for the county.

click to download audioIn new business, magistrates unanimously agreed to rescind a change order of the CDBG’s Scattered Housing Grant, as presented by Judge Whitfield.

click to download audioJudge Whitfield presented a $6,684 change order for the same Mortons Gap property to address a septic tank, add a wheelchair ramp, and replace the carpet with vinyl flooring. He noted after a $4,000 deduction from the rescinded order, the total would be $2,600, which magistrates approved.

The Fiscal Court received a report from Sanitation Director Harry Highfell and a citizen’s report from Betty Cox of the Hopkins County Genealogy Society. WFMW’s News Edge will provide more details on these reports in the coming days.
