Officials from the Madisonville North Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation recently welcomed Stephen Durham as a new board member.
Officials stated that Durham is the president of Cole & Durham Insurance/Lawton Insurance, overseeing six locations across Western Kentucky with a team of 47 employees. Since assuming leadership in 1987, Durham has focused on growing the business, originally established in 1971, while also actively contributing to the community he loves.
Officials noted that Durham has demonstrated active leadership at both local and national levels, serving on various industry boards. He has held the position of chairman on the Grange Mutual Insurance Board and completed two terms on the Encova Insurance Board, including one as chairman. Additionally, he has contributed to the Liberty Mutual Agents Advisory Board. Locally, officials said that Durham has been a member of the YMCA Board of Directors and has served president of the Local Independents Agents Council.
According to officials, Durham and his wife, Starr, recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. They have two adult children and four granddaughters.
After 35 years of business success, officials said Durham is now focused on fostering regional economic growth. They said his commitment to the community aligns with the mission of the Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation. Officials conveyed their enthusiasm about his joining the team and are eager to see the positive impact his leadership will have on both the organization and the community.
