Daniel Boyko/Hopkins County Detention Center mugshot
A Tennessee man faces charges for handgun possession and other offenses following a traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Madisonville last week.
According to the Madisonville Police, 46-year-old Daniel Boyko from Clarksville was observed by officers driving northbound, weaving, crossing the fog line, and traveling at 45-50 mph in a 70 mph zone.
During the stop, police said a K9 unit alerted officers to the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a loaded 9 mm handgun in the center console. Alongside the firearm, officers reportedly found a holster containing restricted hollow point ammunition.
While a check was being conducted on the handgun, police reported that Boyko approached the officer. However, another officer intervened, and police said Boyko pulled away, leading to a struggle. Police stated that Boyko was then taken to the ground and detained.
Boyko was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, using restricted ammo during a felony – no shots, and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center.
