Spectrum has announced a new expansion of its fiber optic broadband network in Hopkins County. Officials say the move will bring gigabit-speed internet, TV, mobile, and voice services to more than 820 additional homes and businesses.

The expansion targets previously unserved or underserved areas near Nortonville, Dawson Springs, Madisonville, St. Charles, and White Plains.

In a written statement, 4th District State Senator Robby Mills said Spectrum is helping them bring rural communities into the digital age, and their latest buildout is bringing internet access to businesses and homes across Hopkins County.

4th District State Representative Wade Williams said: “Reliable internet is a necessity for modern life that opens the door to better jobs, stronger local economies, improved access to health services, and more opportunities for students of every age.” He thanked Spectrum for its continued commitment and partnership in helping Hopkins County to close the digital divide, moving the county “one step closer to ensuring every household has the tools it needs to thrive.”

The expansion is part of Spectrum’s $7 billion private investment multi-year rural initiative. The company says the overall program will eventually build out more than 100,000 miles of fiber infrastructure to reach 1.7 million new locations nationwide.

Spectrum says its starter internet tiers feature speeds of 500 megabits per second with no data caps or contracts.
