A Madisonville man is behind bars facing an assault charge after police say he stabbed his stepfather multiple times.
According to Madisonville Police, 36-year-old Dustin Townsend was arrested shortly after 6:30 Monday morning at a home in the 400 block of Hall Street.
According to police reports, Townsend attacked his stepfather with a knife while the victim was asleep in bed. Police say Townsend’s mother was inside the residence and intervened to stop the assault.
Police say the victim suffered injuries to his stomach, chest, back, and arms, and was airlifted to a hospital in Evansville, where he remains in serious condition. Authorities report the victim was stabbed more than ten times.
Townsend was charged with first-degree assault and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. Police say more charges may be added as the investigation is ongoing.
