A Madisonville man was arrested on domestic violence charges after police say he strangled his pregnant girlfriend.
According to Madisonville Police, officers were dispatched just before 1 a.m. Thursday to Clark Associates on Commerce Drive, where an employee reported her boyfriend, 37-year-old Scott Mitchell, had choked her earlier in the night at a residence on Spence Avenue.
Police say Mitchell admitted to putting his hand around the victim’s throat and pinning her to a bed for a few seconds. Officers noted the victim, who is 7 weeks pregnant, had visible scratch marks on her neck and reported being unable to breathe.
Investigators say Mitchell was already the respondent of an active domestic violence order with the victim, and he reportedly admitted to officers that he knew he violated that order.
Mitchell is charged with first-degree strangulation and violation of a Kentucky EPO or DVO. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
