A major leadership shift is coming to Kentucky Habitat for Humanity. After more than two decades at the helm, the organization’s longtime leader is stepping down, making way for a veteran of the state’s affordable housing network.
After 22 years of service, Mary Shearer is retiring as Executive Director of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity. Her tenure, which officially ends June 30th, has been defined by a multi-decade commitment to eliminating substandard housing across the Commonwealth.
The Board also announced that starting May 15th, Heath Duncan will take over the lead role. Duncan is a familiar face in the Kentucky nonprofit world, having spent nearly 20 years leading the Habitat for Humanity Pennyrile Region. Under his leadership, the affiliate expanded from a single-county operation into a regional organization serving three counties, while also supporting construction efforts in additional counties through strategic partnerships with corporate donors and government agencies.
Duncan’s experience extends beyond home building—he was instrumental in the efforts of the Hopkins County Long-Term Disaster Recovery Group after the destructive Quad State Tornado. Currently, he also serves as Vice President and President-Elect of the Madisonville Noon Kiwanis.
The transition also brings a shuffle to the Board of Directors. Brenda Weaver takes over as President, joined by Zach Worsham as Vice President and Scott Turner as Secretary.
In a statement, the board thanked Shearer for her years of dedication while expressing confidence that Duncan’s mission-driven leadership will keep the organization’s momentum steady.
